Position Description

Kennedy Krieger Institute offers more than 55 outpatient clinics, home and community programs, education, research, pediatric neurobehavioral and rehabilitation/feeding inpatient units, and a day hospital.
This position is 40 hours per week, working Monday through Friday, daytime hours, and on-site. The Nurse Manager is accountable and responsible for the overall operations of the clinic areas and the direct supervision of all outpatient staff and the nursing staff working within the educational programs. This person will be a role model and mentor and is responsible for promoting a collaborative atmosphere between nurses, physicians, and personnel of other disciplines.

Responsibilities
- Establishes and evaluates objectives for the outpatient clinics that are realistic, measurable, and compatible with the Outpatient Nursing Department's goals and objectives.
- Develops, implements, and reviews the Nursing Department's policies, procedures, and standards consistent with regulatory and accrediting agencies for the outpatient and educational programs.
- Enforces policies and procedures consistently and equitably.
- Ensures fiscal management by identifying factors influencing operational costs in clinical areas.
- Adheres to departmental and hospital organizational charts for purposes of communicating, reporting, and decision-making.
- Establishes and maintains effective interdepartmental working relationships through formal and informal meetings, team building, problem-solving sessions, staff, and department meetings
- Interviews and hire applicants for existing vacancies in collaboration with appropriate personnel and coordinates orientation of new staff, in-services, and educational information.
- Oversee staffing and scheduling to ensure adequate and safe staffing ratios. Assigns staff according to expertise, position responsibilities, and clinic or program needs.
- Ensures performance improvement process is consistent, fair, and equitable.
- Provides leadership, motivation, and problem-solving to staff and provides direct ongoing feedback to staff regarding job performance. Conducts yearly performance appraisals for assigned staff.
- Ensures probationary and annual performance appraisals are completed by senior staff nurses within the required time limit.
- Ensures that outpatient and school-based nursing employees complete annual and mandatory competencies.
- Manages rapidly changing situations and multiple priorities within outpatient nursing services and school-based programs.
- Oversees staff development and delivery of in-service education to ensure nursing staff are equipped with sufficient knowledge and skills to provide quality nursing care.
- Performs duties of Assistant Vice President, Outpatient Nursing/Associate Chief Nursing Officer in her absence, as needed.
Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is required. A Master of Science Degree in Nursing or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience required, and a Minimum of 2 years of
Supervision of personnel is required.
License: Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license from Maryland or a compact state.
Certification: Current CPR certification that includes hands-on skills
