Target Audience: Nursing professionals

 

Overview: There are two presentations in one session! Nurse Leaders will discuss lessons about being a leader during turbulent times. You will benefit from the speakers experience with guiding, mentoring to eliminating victim mentality at all levels and provide tools to enhance their abilities to draw inner strength and build self-care sustainment strategies.  The speaker will provide takeaways on techniques on techniques to improve responsibility and effective practices in creating organizational accountability.

 

You will glean insights on the Sick and Safe Policy, strategies for nurse leaders to manage and the impact of the new legislative leaders on this policy.

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss the impact of the healthcare environment on nurse leaders ability to succeed.
  2. Outline how gaining self awareness of current psychological state is impacting the profession overall.
  3. Examine tools for self care management and staying resilient as a nurse leader
  4. Review the impact of the legislative environment of healthcare, specifically the sick and safe policy impact on the workforce.

 

Your Speakers:

Joel Boggess. Joel is a speaker, an author, and a Certified Coach, a counselor, and I’m proud to call him a friend. Boggess is an author, speaker and life coach, and has decades of real world experience helping others ‘Find Their Voice’. Together with his wife, Pei, they are the founders of ‘Finding Your Voice Radio’, and the ‘Finding Your Voice Podcast’. Their goal is to inspire and empower people to get in touch with who they really are, so they can move confidently into the life and work they love.

 

Joel has a very successful coaching practice, and also holds a Masters Degree in counseling. Joel Boggess is the host of the “ReLaunch” show, and the author of the #1 Amazon bestselling book – Finding your Voice. Joel is passionate about sharing fresh ideas, success tips and inspirations through real life stories. He is a “natural” with broadcasting, and he enjoys teaching podcast and radio show hosts on how to book great guests and have engaging interviews.

 

Neal Karkhanis, Director of Government Affairs, joined the Maryland Hospital Association (MHA) in September 2017. At MHA, Neal’s broad portfolio includes medical liability, prescription drugs, post-acute services, social determinants of health and health equity as well as maternal and infant health before the Maryland General Assembly. Neal started his career with the Health Facilities Association of Maryland in his most recent role of Government Relations Manager, representing skilled nursing facilities before the Maryland General Assembly, Maryland Department of Health, the Office of Health Care Quality as well as the United States Congress. He also worked for two years on behalf of consumers on Capitol Hill, serving as the Manager of Public Policy for the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging.  Neal earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Law as well as a Masters of Arts from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).

 

Brian Frazee, Vice President of Legislative Affairs, Maryland Hospital Association.  Brian Frazee serves as Vice President of Government Affairs for the Maryland Hospital Association (MHA). In this capacity, he advocates for Maryland’s 64 hospitals and health systems primarily before the Governor, his administration, and the Maryland General Assembly. Prior to joining MHA in 2015, Brian served as Director of Public Policy for the Maryland Association of Community Services, a state association of over 100 nonprofit providers supporting people with developmental disabilities. He also served as an Associate with Capitol Strategies, a government affairs firm in Annapolis. Brian began his career as an intern with former Senate Finance Committee Chairman Thomas "Mac" Middleton before serving as the Senator's campaign manager. Brian graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Master's Degree in Public Policy with a concentration in health policy. At UMBC, he was a member of the Sondheim Public Affairs Scholars Program, the Honors College, and served as the University’s Community & Governmental Relations Assistant. Brian serves as Executive Vice President of the UMBC Alumni Association Board of Directors and as a member of the Maryland Government Relations Association (MGRA)

Board of Directors.
